Shooeizan 松栄山, Ryoohooji 了法寺(りょうほうじ)


This temple in Hachioji near central Tokyo belongs to the Nichiren sect.

For the Festival, including a maid coffeshop


It is one of the famous temples for visiting the seven gods of good luck (shichi fukujin) during the New Year Holidays.

The statue of Benzaiten 新護弁財天 is venerated in this temple.

Lately it has become famous because since may 2009 the present head priest, Shoko Nakazato, has been putting up big boards with manga illustrations to remind the parishers of festivals and events.

Many young people have their photos taken in front of these billboards and fame is spreading.
The temple is even called a moedera 「萌え寺」, a newly budding temple.

The manga are painted by the illustrator Toromi とろ美.

She is represented as TORO BENTEN とろ弁天:

On November 7, 2010, a new statue has been placed, called the
とろ弁天像 Toro Benten Statue
